A Wool Crazy Christmas Pincushion Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

By now you know for sure that I just LOVE pincushions. Therefore, you have to know that there was no way I was going to avoid adding Kaaren Johnston's adorable "A Wool Crazy Christmas" pincushion to my "to do" list. In fact, I'm going to add it to the top of my rather lengthy "to do" list. Kaaren shared her wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog. I hope you enjoy making yours. First Friday Freebie #15 - A Wool Crazy Christmas

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern: It’s the First Friday of the month again. Where is the time going?

I took a much needed break yesterday from the packing, purging and sorting to rest and regroup. I can’t wait until the move is over and and we’re settled in our new home.

Thank goodness I was able to remain a project ahead with my FFF’s and this month’s design was completed just after we purchased our new/old home at the end of September. I knew I just wouldn’t have the time to work on the design once the packing began.

I designed this month’s FFF in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. I hope you enjoy making A Wool Crazy Christmas as much as I did.

Amy's Bio - Hi, my name is Amy. I live in a small house near the ocean in Los Angeles with my three children and my awesome husband. We are a lively family but we live very quietly ~ I can honestly say that all five of us are homebodies, looking forward to returning home whenever we go out. But the fun thing I've discovered while looking through my camera these past years, is that there is a lot of beauty in our "everyday." Huswif Needlecase Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

It's not possible to resist a charming little clutch needle-case. At least it's impossible for me. So, I was happy to see that Kaaren Johnston had a wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make a Huswif needle-case. What a terrific gift this would make. I know quite a few crafters and sewers who would love getting one of these. How about you?

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: If you've dropped in by chance, then welcome to my first tutorial. Pull up a comfortable chair, grab a cup of tea...or coffee if you prefer...and follow along. If perhaps you're joining me because you have the same obsession with pincushions as I do, then welcome to my PA (Pincushions Anonymous) meeting. Tea and coffee are the beverages of the day.

At the outset, I would like to apologize for a few out-of-focus photos. I'm still learning about my camera and I think I just might have gotten a wee bit too close on some of them. Hopefully you'll still be able to follow along and if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

So without further ado, let's get started. What you'll need are scissors, fabric of your choosing, sewing needle and thread, florist's sand or polyester batting for stuffing, a 5" needle or any long needle, green cotton perle thread or 2 strands of green floss, green wool or felt and fabric glue.

Easy Needlebook Tutorial By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

If ever there was an adorable little gift to give your sewing club pals, quilting buddies, crazy quilt club members, teachers, etc. it would have to be Kaaren Johnston's Easy Needlebook which she shows us all how to make on her The Painted Quilt blog. That is just adorable. I may just have to make an extra one just for me.

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: 115 110 days until what you might ask? Why Christmas, of course!

Now I don’t want you all to get upset with me for the ‘gentle’ reminder, because I’m in the same boat as all of you. Before we know it, we’ll all be scrambling to get our gifts made, wrapped and in most cases sent off to far away places. So today I’m going to share with you not only a great way to use up some of your stash but also how to make some easy, quick and useful gifts.

I don’t know about you but I love charm packs because they give me an overall view of a complete range of fabrics at-a-glance and at a reasonable price. And now there are so many patterns available that are charm pack friendly which makes them even more ‘charming’.

.....And, if you wanted to make this project even easier, you don’t even have to piece it! You can stop at the stripping part or you can just use a plain piece of fabric for the outside. I’ll leave that part up to you.

Don’t you think they would make great stocking stuffers or little prezzies for your stitching buddies…or even as hostess gifts come holiday time? That’s what I’m going to do with mine!

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: I have had several requests to purchase the needlecases that have appeared in earlier posts. Since I’m now retired and have the time to play and create at will, I’ve decided that I would rather continue to enjoy myself and leave the designing and selling to the ‘younger’ folks out there.

Having said that, I’ve been asked if I would consider doing a tutorial on my needlecase instead. Since I love to share, here it is.
