Santa and Tree Tutorials By June Crawford of A Creative Dream

I just love adorable and colorful Santa's - especially if they are tall and skinny. If you do, too then you'll be happy to know that June Crawford has a wonderful tutorial on her A Creative Dream blog showing you how to make a Santa and tree. He'll make a nice addition to my skinny Santa's collection.

I'd sewn them a few years ago and had tucked them away, as I often do, to get back to at some point. And, I did get back to them. The first one turned into Santa. Here's what Linda had to say about her free e-pattern: Lucy is not only the most adorable of our angels, she is also one of the smallest. She only stands 4" tall, but she is a mighty angel. In fact, Lucy is the "boss" of all the angels. She assigns the tasks to the various other angels and keeps an eye out for them. Despite her small size Lucy has a HUGE heart. Lucy Angel is an adorable little angel. She is a free-standing angel doll with a wood doll pin body and head. Her wood head is painted and she has short curly hair and a halo. Her dress is made from wide wired ribbon and is decorated with a ribbon sash, and floral ribbon decoration.

Snowman Ornament Tutorial By June Crawford of A Creative Dream

Here's what June had to say about her tutorial: A new baby is coming (thank goodness it isn't mine!)!!! We have a new mommy to be at work. This is Kristen's first baby, it's a little boy, and she's due in August. I really don't know Kristen more than to say hi and ask her how it's all going in the hallway, but I sure am excited for her. I don't have a first clue about what the nursery is done in, or really what she's interested in, or what she has for the baby...but, because I think First Christmas ornaments are always a great gift, I'm going to make one for the baby. I asked several people in her department what the baby's name is going to be, and not a single one could remember, but they promised to find out for me so I could make it more personal. After considering all of my options, I've decided to go with a snowman (mostly because I think they are so darned cute!). I'm going to share the making of it with you, so on to the snowman! (Many thanks to my daughter, Kate, for taking pics for me!)

Here's what Romona had to say about her cross-stitch design:

Jack the Jester is a doll that I made, and is the first of a what I hope will be a series of Jester patterns. Included in this design is a picture of the actual Jester face and the completed piece, the stitching chart, the floss colours chart based on DMC colours. The floss chart also includes the floss usage chart which gives you the actual number of stitches made, and the amount of thread you need. I have also added a colour graph for your convenience.

You know that I just LOVE dolls of all shapes and sizes. So, of course, when I found an adorable doll tutorial you know I would just have to tell you about it. Well, if you love prairie dolls like I do then you'll be happy to know that Kaaren Johnston has a wonderful tutorial on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make Prudence - A Prairie Doll. Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: Not too long ago I began making some mini or doll-sized quilts and although I do have several cloth dolls in my collection, none are really vintage looking and none were made by me. So I decided to try to make my own and what follows is how Prudence evolved.

I recently joined a Yahoo group called ‘Small Quilt Talk’ hosted by Kathleen Tracy and of late, there has been a lot of talk about dolls and doll making. I love to read the friendly and casual banter about gals who have made dolls, those who have ordered doll kits but for one reason or another they have remained as such and those who aspire to make a doll. I didn’t realize that I fell into the last category until yesterday.

“Why can’t I make one?” I asked myself.

I love a challenge. So out came the sketch book and the preliminary drawings were made. I fussed around a bit and finally came up with a pattern that turned out to be quite workable. I didn’t want the pattern to be too large so I designed it to fit on a 9” x 12” piece of paper.

How To Create A Dolls Face Tutorial By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

When it comes to dolls there isn't anything I don't love. But, I'm especially partial to cloth dolls with painted faces. So, I was happy to see that Kaaren Johnston had a wonderful tutorial on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to create a dolls face.

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: At the outset, I’d like to share with you some words of wisdom that one of my art teachers used to say to her students…”There are many ways of right”.

Now having said that, I am not saying that my way of creating a doll’s face is the ‘right’ way, but it is the way that works best for me when teaching students who have had little or no artistic training and are too insecure to even attempt a face. I promise you that if you follow the steps that I am about to share with you, your doll’s face will look as good as or better than mine.

So without further ado, let’s get started. Plan to stay awhile because this tutorial is loaded with pictures and is quite long.

18th Century Scissor Shoe Fobs Cross-Stitch Free Tutorial By Romona King Of Northbrook Designs

I just LOVE cross-stitch and LOVE shoes so you can imagine how delighted I was to see that Romona King of Northbrook Designs had created 3 wonderful free cross-stitch designs on her Northbrook Stitches blog for creating 18th century scissor shoe fobs. I am definitely going to be creating some of these.

Here's what Romona had to say about her cross-stitch designs and tutorial: Shoe Fobs came about as a result of my friend Colleen asking if I would like to be a guest blogger on her site. Because I had just recently gone back in time a little to return to my needlework days, she wondered if I could come up with something to celebrate her Historical theme for March 2012. I decided these were simple and quick to do and in keeping with my Marie Antoinette obsession. I have tried to use as few colours as possible because I tend to get carried away with details, so I have restrained myself for these fobs.

These are very small, they fit onto a 1 1/4 th metal button cover. I have written a tutorial below to show you how to put these little charmers together. They make wonderful decoration and identifiers for your scissors and we all know how special our scissors are to us. They are fast to do and you can make them to fit larger or smaller button covers by simply changing your fabric count therefore making them for your different sizes of scissors.
