Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  Yes, you read it right, this is the knicker bag tutorial and is I think the very first bag I ever made way back in the early 70s when the craze for them hit the Convent. It was such a great bag for carrying books and files to school, although I never quite managed to get the Peak Freens biscuit tin in there for Domestic Science!

As you can imagine the design is based on an outsize pair of knickers, with the gusset becoming the handle and the waist being sewn across to create the base of the bag... now before you think I have lost the plot I can tell you that no lingerie will be harmed in the making of this bag, so let's get started.

My mother had very green thumbs and loved to be out in the garden and when I moved to my house it was my mum who cleared the borders and collected copious bags of snails to boot!

So I thought a great gift would be a gardening tidy tote to carry round all those bits and pieces that you need to be with you when you are wrestling with mother nature.

This bag will be great for all those April showers next month, for carrying your boot in a chic bag to Festivals, for holding the kids' sopping wet swimming costumes and for feeling as though you are saving the planet at the supermarket. So let's get this on the table (no pun intended) oil cloth hates you, it is personal and it will fight you every step of the way but we are going to tame it and win!

When I saw her today, she said she wanted to make lemon drizzle cake and then we started talking about her granny's amazing chicken soup and I thought now is the time for her to start collecting her family recipes in her own cook book which is why we are going to make her very own book to gather up the recipes. I wonder if like me and my mum you have recipes books filled with hand written little scraps of paper with your beloved family recipes, if you do then this is the perfect project for you start on.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  My best friend is Pierina, I met her on my first day at secondary school, over 40 years ago and she has the misfortune to live in a household of hot blooded men! So hot blooded are they that they constantly turn down/off the radiators, which means that layers and a hot water bottle are the only way for a girl to go!

Now this is a really easy and quick gift to make for your friends, it took me just over three hours to knit and another hour to Swiss darn and sew up. To add a little more interest we will also be using a twisted rib, which sounds so much more complicated than it really is and a moss/seed stitch frame to emphasise your Swiss darning. You can vary the darning to create a snowflake, initials or any other pattern that takes your fancy... I have used a heart cos I love my hot water bottle in the Winter!

So this week we are going to make an ipad cover, a Kindle cover or even work in miniature for an i-phone (measurements for these are at the end of the tutorial) and we are going to use fabric from Moda's 30s playtime collection which is just yummy.

I really like this bag pattern because this bag, measuring approximately 9"(width) x 7 1/2"(hight w/o handles) x 5 1/2" (depth), can be used not only for bento boxes of any kind but also for carrying little crafty projects like yarn + needles. It has a cover inside that can give nice privacy for whatever in there and the cover can also prevent it from getting dusty in a windy day. It is much sturdier and larger than the fabric basket, so if you found that your fabric basket was too small or too floppy as a gift bag, this might be a good alternative..?!

Here's what Christie had to say about her tutorial: In case you missed me on my friend Sabra's blog Sew a Straight Line, I was a guest blogger a while back and did a tutorial on how to make a wetbag.


I like wetbags because you can use them for more than just cloth diapering.  Take them to the pool for wet clothing and towels.  Maybe you have a little one who is potty training.  This would be a handy thing to have in the diaper bag for any accidents.  Much cuter than a plastic grocery bag, don’t you think?  This wetbag ends up being 9” x 12” and will fit about 3 large cloth diapers, but you can certainly adjust the sizes to make a larger bag.

Here's what Christie had to say about her tutorial:  First off, let’s just get it out of the way and mention that yes, the paint totally spread on the names.  Super bummed about that, but it was really late and although I pressed down the vinyl hard enough, I applied too much paint and it made the vinyl bubble.  My paint was way thin, so I don’t think that helped, either.  So yah, the names look crappy.  Someday I’ll make more and post better pictures of the finished product.  The first one I made looked much better, but I gifted it before taking pictures.  Such is life!

Anyways, excuses, excuses, right?  Sorry.  Moving right along.  You just need paint, a glue gun, about a 2” x 40” strip of knit (or other fabric—I chose knit so it won’t fray), and a canvas tote bag.  That three pack there is about $6.00 at my Walmart.

Alisa's Bio: Alisa Burke is a freelance painter and mixed media artist who studied fine art at Portland State University. With a background in painting and printmaking, a desire to explore and push materials, Alisa is always looking for new ways to break the rules and redefine art. She draws inspiration from street art, graffiti, art history and fashion and it is not uncommon to find her digging through the trash in hopes of recycling something unique use in her artwork.

Alisa’s paintings have been exhibited in a variety of galleries and her handmade, painted accessories are carried in a number of boutiques across the country. Her artwork has been featured in publications such as Cloth Paper Scissors, Quilting Arts, Where Women Create, Somerset Studios’ Haute Handbags, Art Doll Quarterly, and the University of San Diego Magazine. In addition to making art, Alisa teaches a variety of workshops nation wide. Alisa appeared as a guest artist on the DIY Network show Craft Lab and book Canvas Remix was released in spring 2008.

Here's what Christie had to say about her tutorial: Yes.  It is true.  I am Nacho. nachOOOOOOOOO!   Another lunch bag tutorial.  I didn’t want to wait on this because it’s time for school to start very soon!  Remember how I bought this fabric and could only find and afford one fat quarter?  Well, this was the idea that popped into my head.  And surprisingly, my son D claimed it as his since big brother got the first one.  I thought it was a tad on the girly side, but he loves it because of the cute little critters on it.
