Creating a Stained Glass Look by Embossing Transparency Film Free Tutorial By Laura Carson of Artfully Musing Blog
I just love stained glass and would like to learn how to create beautiful stained glass creations. That's not going to happen anytime soon, but in the meantime I can learn how to create stain glass looking mixed media creations using transparency film. With this in mind I was happy to see that Laura Carson had a wonderful tutorial on her Artfully Musing blog showing you how to create a beautiful stained glass look by embossing transparency film. How beautiful is Laura's creation? I'm looking forward to learning how to do this. How about you?
Here's what Laura had to say about her tutorial: In November I posted a tutorial on “Creating a Stained Glass Look Using a Glass Slide”. Embossing transparency film is another option to creating the look of stained glass although I don’t think is sparkles quite as nicely as real glass. But with transparency film, you can print and emboss any digital image, whereas with glass, you are limited to rubber stamps.
The base of the ATC below is an image of an art nouveau stained glass window that I printed on transparency film and embossed. So that you could better see the colors on the transparency, the first image of the piece is photographed on white paper. The second image is photographed with the light behind the piece. Autumn Blessing Free Quilt Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt
Just when I think I couldn't possible add anything else to my Fall decorating "to do" list along comes another mini wall quilt that is just too charming to resist. Kaaren Johnston has yet another charming pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make an "Autumn Blessings" mini quilt. My husband may divorce me, but this is definitely going on my Fall "to do" list.
Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern: It sure would be nice to be posting this month’s First Friday Freebie on a cool, crisp Autumn day but that’s not going to happen until tomorrow. For the last four days, we’ve been experiencing record breaking temperatures for this time of year in the mid to high 90’s and along with the oppressive humidity, it’s been brutal.
This month’s FFF is an Autumn-inspired mini quilt called Autumn Blessings. It combines both pieced and stitched blocks with some wool appliquéd elements. I had the best time not only creating it but also when adding the embellishments. I could easily have gotten carried away and found that I really had to restrain myself. I hope you have fun making it your own.

I can never get enough of wall quilts - especially those for the Fall season. So, I was delighted to see that Kaaren Johnston had a wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make an autumn sampler. Given my love of Fall this is definitely going on my "to do" list.
Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern: After four days of rain and an unseasonal ‘nor-easter thrown in for good measure, we have our fingers crossed for blue skies and sunshine today. Although yesterday dawned bright and cool, we had to fire up our furnace and build a fire in the wood stove for the first time this season. We even had a few wet flurries of the white stuff. Yikes! I think that autumn has officially arrived!
To celebrate the season, this month’s First Friday Freebie was designed to showcase the fading days of summer and the start of autumn…my favorite season! Watermelon, sunflowers, crows, wasps, pumpkins, birdhouses, flowers and of course the alphabet are included in this sampler.

I was driving to the Post Office yesterday, and decided to stop at the farm market on the way back for some squash. Those little tiny pumpkins always catch my eye! I already had a few but decided to get some more and suddenly, I had this idea to glitter them and add some dried flowers to the top. So I bought 8 pumpkins and drove over to mom's house! (Ya'll know I love my glitter!)

I took some photos of these brilliant Sunflowers while in Brisbane earlier this year. So large bright and cheery, even with showers threatening overhead.

I didn’t get far with the fancy work tablecloth however, once I discovered Silk Ribbon Embroidery, I became addicted!

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial: This light scarf is made from Anna Maria Horner's 'Little Folks' voile. To achieve a similar look, you will need very sheer, soft fabric. I have used a print on one side of the scarf, and a plain white voile on the other side.

New Book on ECHR - EU Interactions
Giuseppe Martinico, of the Centro de Estudios Politicos y Constitucionales in Spain and Oreste Pollicino, Associate Professor of Comparative Law at Bocconi University in Italy have published a new book in which they research the extent of convergence between Europe's two main international legal systems: ECHR Law and EU law. The book, published by Edward Elgar Publishing, is entitled 'The Interaction Between Europe’s Legal Systems - Judicial Dialogue and the Creation of Supranational Laws'. This is the abstract:
This book examines the broad issue of the rapprochement between the legal systems of the EU and the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) and asks whether the two systems are converging. While the literature on the issue of the national application of EC/EU law or that of ECHR norms is voluminous, a specific comparative analysis that takes into account the national judicial treatment of both laws has been lacking, until now.This detailed book begins with some reflections on the importance of judicial interactions in European constitutional law, before going on to compare the relationships between national judges and supranational laws across 27 European jurisdictions. For the same jurisdictions it then makes a careful assessment of way in which ECHR and EU law is handled before national courts and also sets this in the context of the original goals and aims of the two regimes. Finally, the authors broaden the perspective to bring in the prospects of European enlargement towards the East, and consider the implications of this for the rapprochement between the two regimes.
The Interaction between Europe’s Legal Systems will strongly appeal to academics and students in European law, comparative law, theory of law, postgraduate students and LLM students in European law and in comparative law.

Now that you know how to embroider a spider you have to learn how to embroider the spider's web. What's a spider without a spider's web? Right? I enjoy a quiet life in our little cottage by a lake in Northern Illinois. I frequent flea markets and antique shops looking for do-dads that I can sew on to my stitching projects. I offer some of my handmade items, along with my mom's and my sister's, in my Etsy shop. I enjoy baking and share many of my recipes here. And did I mention glitter?

Since I’m now retired and have the time to play and create at will, I’ve decided that I would rather continue to enjoy myself and leave the designing and selling to the ‘younger’ folks out there.
Having said that, I’ve been asked if I would consider doing a tutorial on my needlecase instead. Since I love to share, here it is.

Do Small Things With Great Love Stitchery Free Pattern By Amy of nanaCompany

I love this quote. It's what I try to do in my own way. Apparently Mother Teresa, whose real name was Agnes, chose the name Teresa when she took her religious vows in honor of Saint Therese de Lisieux ~ "the little flower" who believed that life should be spent scattering "flowers"... that is, small acts of love.
So, when I wanted to embroider these words, it made a lot of sense to frame them with lazy daisies and little buds. And I've turned my pencil drawing into a pdf pattern for you...

We are a lively family but we live very quietly ~ I can honestly say that all five of us are homebodies, looking forward to returning home whenever we go out. But the fun thing I've discovered while looking through my camera these past years, is that there is a lot of beauty in our "everyday." And I'm looking forward to sharing with you my life as I create and explore new ways to find that beauty.

It is a great block to start with as it gets you used to cutting and sewing accurately. After the chores were done, whenever I had some spare time, I would sit quietly on the front porch and stitch away. I remember these times so fondly. When I retired, and finally had some time to myself, I had the desire to do embroidery again. I didn’t get far with the fancy work tablecloth however, once I discovered Silk Ribbon Embroidery, I became addicted!

Pumpkin - Crazy Quilt Style Free Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt
Since Fall is my favorite season for decorating you had to know that if I ran across an adorable pumpkin tutorial I would just have to tell you about it. And, add to the fact that it crazy quilted. Well, it just doesn't get any better than that. I hope you enjoy Kaaren Johnston's wonderful pumpkin tutorial that she has on her The Painted Quilt blog.
Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: I’ve been thinking about making one of these pumpkins for a while so on Friday I decided to stop procrastinating, bite the bullet and got down to business. I made a list of everything that I needed, gathered it all together and started the Great Pumpkin Journey.

I love ribbon crafts and love floral crafts. I especially like it when the two are combined. So, of course, I was happy to see that Ros Coffey had a tutorial on her RosMadeMe Blog blog showing you how to make a double ribbon handbag charm for your purse. I hope you enjoy Ros's tutorial.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial: When I was a little, the class above us sang Scarlet Ribbons and were the stars at a local music festival... they also got to spend the early evening at the Kursaal in Southend, which was to a 10 year old one of the most exciting places in the whole wide world... they had a wall of death in there and I admit to being a tad disappointed when I saw it for the first time there there was no pile of bodies at the bottom! At that time I wore my hair in plaits... this was after the incident when I had to have my hair cut when a hair roller could not be removed as my mother was going through her "daughter in ringlets" phase... I had mostly blue ribbons to go with my school uniform and I longed for scarlet velvet ribbons... How’s My Hair – Accordion Folded Book Free Tutorial By Laura Carson of Artfully Musing Blog
I'm enthralled with Marie Antoinette and all the amazing art creations there are today about her. So, I was really pleased to see that Laura Carson had a wonderful tutorial on her Artfully Musing blog showing you how to make a Marie Antoinette accordion book. It's on my "to do" soon list.
Here's what Laura had to say about her tutorial: Accordion folded books are simple to make and require no sewing. Everything is assembled with glue. You can make them any size you want and can use them to display art, as a journal, as scrapbook or as a piece of art. The new Rectangular Fleur de Lys Frames carried by Alpha Stamps make perfect book covers. I also thought that Alpha Stamp’s new humorous “How’s My Hair” rubber stamp set and collage sheet would make a fun topic for a book.
The new stamps and images are based on the craze of the French court in the 1770s (Marie Antoinette’s time) of creating huge hairstyles called “le pouf”. Hair dressers used cushions made of fabric or cork and the woman’s own hair as well as added hair pieces that would be combed over and piled on top of the cushions. Next were added enormous curls, feathers, lace, flowers and other ornaments. The bigger the hair the higher the status!

Charlie Is My Darling... The Dog Bandana Free Tutorial By Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog
I just love seeing dogs with adorable bandannas tied around their necks. It always reminds me of my "baby Bud" who, when he was groomed, would come home with a cute little bandanna tied around his neck. The groomer would put one one for the particular season or holiday time frame we were in. Here's what Laura had to say about her tutorial: This project started with Leslie of Alpha Stamps sending me a picture of the French Kiss 6x6 paper pad and asking me if I would like to create something using these papers. I said “YES”! These papers are so up my alley. Next, I had to decide which images I would use as a focal point and I couldn’t resist using the Cléo de Mérode collage sheet. Her images are some of my favorites. With the papers dictating the style and with Cleo as my muse, I decided to make a vintage French book from two painter’s canvases.
